Try This Tonight: Ask One Different Question

Most conversations follow the same pattern. “How was your day?” gets asked, answered quickly, and then it’s over. It’s not that there isn’t more to say, it’s just that the question doesn’t really invite it.

Tonight, change one thing. Ask something slightly different. “What made you laugh today?” or “What stayed with you?” Something that makes a person pause for a second before answering.

Ask it casually, and give it a moment. You don’t need to fill the silence or turn it into a bigger conversation.

Sometimes the smallest shift in a question is enough to bring out something that would have otherwise been skipped.
